Why is your support so important?

Accessibility. Affordability. These are the two major barriers working against people with spinal cord injuries who are looking to continue their long-term recovery. NextStep Kansas City's goal, along with the NeuroRecovery Network, is to offer effective, activity-based spinal cord injury recovery interventions in a community-based setting. These unique interventions were developed in a handful of clinical settings around the country making them expensive, and limited in the number of people that could access them. Offering these effective interventions at the community level makes it more affordable, and creates greater access to more people. 

The reason this is a problem is activity-based interventions, aimed specifically at furthering recovery for people with spinal cord injuries, are not available in most rehab clinics. Additionally, insurance typically won't cover them long enough to make any real progress, if they cover them at all. Nothing about long-term recovery from a spinal cord injury is easy, or quick. Most people would argue that recovery is never complete. It is something that is very personal, and individualized, only to be determined by the individual that is going through it.

This is why NextStep Kansas City's Believe365 Donation Program was created. The lack of financial support from the usual institutions to bolster community-based facilities like NextStep Kansas City, and the people we serve, motivated us to find a way! The Believe365 Donation Program created a way for people to support our efforts as we work toward our mission, all year long. When our members pledge their recurring donations, they are taking a stand. They are making a statement that people living with spinal cord injuries deserve a better opportunity to decide when they are finished working toward their own recovery and independence goals.
